Parking on the street in Zagreb city center
If the parking garage isn’t close, you can park your car on the street on the designated parking spot marked with white lines. Usually, it is very hard to find a spot and you have to be a bit lucky to find a good place to park. Parking on the street in the city center is pricy because it’s under the first parking zone.
If you don’t feel safe parking on the street, you can find a few public parking places in or near the center of Zagreb. One is located above British square and the other can be found behind Zagreb main railway station and concert hall Vatroslav Lisinski.
Usually, parking during the daytime over the week is the best option as many people would be at work and the parking spots would be available.
Free parking in Zagreb center
Some would say that parking for free in Zagreb city center is a myth but the truth is that such can be found but they do come with a bit of inconvenience. First of all, parking all throughout the city is free on Sunday with the exception of parking garages. Simply, parking on streets or in public parking lots is free on Sundays. But if you wish to find free spots to park in the center you need to go further. For instance, you can find free parking spots above British square but that includes around 20-minute walk from your car to the British square alone and another 10 minutes’ walk to the center.
Your best bet includes this part of the center. Go to streets like Zelengaj, Goljak or other nearby streets and you will be able to find a free place to park your car. However, maybe the safest and easiest choice is to park your car in the garage and avoid all the inconveniences.
Paying public parking in Zagreb center
Payment must be made immediately after the car has been parked. You may pay at parking meters on the street or by sending a text message.
Using the Parking Meter to Pay
Please have your change ready because the parking meter only accepts coins in the denominations of 0.50, 1, 2, and 5 HRK. Purchase the parking ticket and display it prominently on your dashboard.
SMS-based payment
Send your license plate number (no spaces, for example ZG1234AO) to (+385) 70010X, where X is the zone number. Mobile charges apply. Parking is confirmed once you receive a return text message. You can find your zone on the beginning and on the end of the street on the sign.
Paying for the parking via app
The app via which parking payment is available in Zagreb is called ZgPark. Install the app, enter your license plate and card details and you would be able to pay for the parking much simpler.
